Book Talk Tuesday Linky Party

Since my summer vacation ends one week from today, I decided to review a different type of book this week.  I selected my favorite summer read, The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin.

                         Product Details

The story is about Charles Lindbergh's wife, Anne Morrow and her life as an Aviator's Wife.  She grew up as the daughter of an Ambassador and was well educated.  After she and Charles married, she became a pilot herself and went on many exploration flights with her husband.

What I found fascinating about this book was the lifestyle the two had to endure.  Charles was so famous for his flight across the ocean, they were always hounded by the press.  The press was continually trying to take snapshots of their family.  They were like the Royal Family of their time period.  I had no idea they were so famous.

I also found their parenting style fascinating.  They often left their children with nannies and caretakers while they traveled the world.  I was surprised when I read this only because of the generation they were a part of.  I always assumed (yes, I know I shouldn't) mothers of that time period stayed home to raise the children.  After discussing this book with my own mother, she said many women lived this type of lifestyle.

I was surprised by the ending and what became of their lives.  I read it on the way to California and then I had to finish it on the beach.  Don't you just love books that are impossible to stop reading??

Let me know what your favorite book of the summer was - it can be any type of book you enjoyed!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!  I know mine seems shorter and shorter each year.
